April 29th

Wow it is already the end of April.  Division 7 has been busy!
All students should have brought home information about their Scientist of the day, if the date doesn't work for you please let me know and we can make adjustments.  These will start next week, if you'd like to come for this let me know and I will try to organize a time that works.
Forest fun is always a popular activity on Tuesday.

These students designed a coat hanger.
 Friends in the woods!

We are very fortune to have Charlotte's mom teaching us gymnastics!  We had lots of fun both Monday and Friday learning different balance, core and gymnastic skills.

On Thursday we played Man Tracker with our big buddies!   Today with Mrs. Roberts class we learned about 3 different regions in Canada that the First Nations people settled. We learned about what the land was like, what grew there and what animals lived there which then dictated what the people ate, the type of travel and shelter as well as their clothing.

Just a reminder that Club RED finishes tomorrow so students need to return calendars on Tuesday, Wednesday at the latest.  Our celebration will be on Friday, students should try to wear something red.  Thanks for all your support parents with all our special days.

These pictures are from explorations.  These are a few representations of Canada that the students made!

April 22 - Earth Day

Happy Earth Day - the students worked very hard this morning to write these great stories using 6 different pictures for Earth Day.  Each group presented their story to the class and then later we read the actual Chris Van Allsberg 'Just a Dream'.

Our computer lab is still out of commission but we are excited that we will be starting a gymnastics unit with Charlotte's mom. For the next couple of weeks on Monday and Fridays we will have a variety of gymnastic stations!

Just a reminder that if you go to the link Spelling City link on this blog it is an excellent way to practice the spelling each week.   Usually we do this in the lab but unfortunately we are not able to do this so it would be great if you are doing this at home.  Also don't forget about our Xtra Math which I gave to you at the conference, we only have about 6 students that have tried this great practice tool!

You should have received an message on the portal about our boat trip on June 9th.  Please sign up soon and if paying by cash you can send it.  Thanks

April 15th

Thank you so much to all the parents that drove for Peter Pan.  The play was enjoyed by all.  Some of the students really liked getting autographs of the performers after the play.

On Wednesday we got together with Mrs. O'Riordan's class to make bees.  This was a follow up activity after Mason brought in some Mason Bees.  They are very interesting and Mason and his family keep them in their backyard every spring/summer and in their fridge in the winter.

Everyone mark your calendar for Thursday, June 9th as that is going to be our year end field trip.  Next week we will be starting our ocean unit and this trip includes a boat trip from Rocky Point.  This  trip should be on the portal on Monday.

April 6th

Today I sent home your child's report card, these are for you to keep.  Grandparent cards were sent home today so if you could please deliver or mail these that would be appreciated.  Yesterday they also brought home their Superflexbooklets, please go over this with your child and have them explain each character.  This is a great program to help students with self regulation.  They can keep these booklets at home.  Thursday and Friday, April 7 & 8th are treats days which the PAC has organized so if your child brings $1.00 they could buy Popsicles or chips.
DRIVERS are still needed for our Peter Pan field trip on Thursday, April 14th.  Also many students have not yet signed up on the portal please do so ASAP thanks
Don't forget PJ day is on Friday!

April 1st

It is already April and this fabulous weather is definitely letting us know it is spring.  A huge thank to Mason's mom for treating the class to Popsicles today they were enjoyed and appreciated!

I have updated the calendar on this blog so please check it out.

Club RED (Read Every Day) started today - your child should have brought home a letter and you need to start reading today!  Please note all our special activity days that are part of club RED.

Our field trip to Peter Pan is on Thursday, April 14th.  Please sign up on the portal.  We do need drivers so please let me know if you can help out.  Again thank you in advance.

For spelling this week I have started to mark words wrong if they add capitals.  We have talked about this so much that I am hoping this encourages them to be more careful.  Lesson 6 next week is a review so we will be testing on 15 words instead of the usual 5.   In their planners they will only record half of the words but they are all on Spelling City or if you want your child to bring home their duotangs just tell them.

Also if anyone has old balls they are not using and would like to donate them to our class that would be great Div. 7 (and other children at the playground) all love to play with balls!
