Friday the 13!

Despite the fact it is Friday the 13th - hopefully you all have a great day!

I was so proud of Div. 7 as they did an awesome job at the Remembrance Day assembly.

Canada  - at one of our Reader's Workshop students were learning all the provinces and territories plus their capital cities.  If you could discuss this at home it would reinforce their learning. We are now looking closer at each province to find out the things that make it unique.

Next Friday is our field trip to Fort Langley.  It looks like we will have enough drivers - thanks so much to everyone for volunteering.  If you have not already signed up for the field trip or paid please do so asap.  Thanks   Just a reminder to everyone we will be going rain or shine so please dress for the weather, with a recess snack in your pocket.  Also all students will need to bring in their booster seats that morning.   Thanks.

Hopefully everyone is reading their Just Right Reading, please remember to bring these book bags to school daily.

Nov.5th

On Monday your child received their Just Right Reading back with 4/5 books and a letter explaining this program.  Your child has the choice of just a different classroom book or one from their JRR each day. These books should be brought to school each day.

Tuesday afternoon we had a great musical presentation by Hoja.

Our Great Canadian presentations  have been excellent and it is so nice to get to know more about our friends.  It has also been great to meet all the special pets that have visited!

We are now back into our Canada unit and the students are busy learning the different provinces/territories, capital cities and where they are located.  We will be looking at each province and territory in more detail as we take a 'trip' across Canada.

Please sign up on the portal for our field trip to Fort Langley on Friday, Nov. 20th.

We have new Reader's Workshop and exploration stations.  They are busy constructing all different things (even coffins!) and classifying Canadian animals and then creating their habitats.

October 16/15

We now have beautiful fall leaves hanging from the ceiling, the students used their pastels to colour and smudge to create these realistic colourful leaves.

Thanks to everyone for sending in paper towel rolls but please keep sending them in as we still need 10 more.

If you know your child is going to be absent please contact the office as with our new computer system it can only be imputed by Mrs. Corcoran.

During buddies we played Capture the Flag, it was Div. 1 against Div. 6 & 7.  It was lots of fun.

The students have started their Christmas cards this week which they will finish up next week so they can be submitted and published for possible purchase.

I have added our Celebration Snack list as an additional page on this blog but before each celebration I will also post a reminder for everyone.

Thanks to all families who have worked to find further words in their child's names.  Obviously some names have many more possibilities but the goal is just to find as many words in each name and help strengthen literacy skills (specifically reading and spelling).

Great Canadians start next week.  If you have any questions about this please just ask.

Oct. 9

If anyone has paper towel rolls please send in ASAP.  Thanks. We are making rain sticks and yes we  need some parent helpers :)

Please return student verification forms as soon as possible.  Thanks

There is just a few of you that have not signed upto bring something for one of our class celebrations please see or email me next week as I will be finalizing and posting it next Friday.  Please don't worry as I will always put up a reminder on the blog before the celebration.

Scholastic order has been placed thanks to Miranda (Mason's mom). Please do not send cash instead please pay by cheque made out to Scholastic.  Next order that we send out will have a letter with information about paying by visa so that you can pay them directly.   Also if you are purchasing gifts please just indicate on your order form and I will be sure to not give them to your child but instead just hold them and give them to you in person.

I hope you all like the turkey and the pumpkin that your child made for your dinner tables, they were very excited to bring them home!  Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend.

Oct. 2

Fairview had a successful Terry Fox Run, thanks to all the parents who helped out on the course, cutting oranges and walking/running the route with the students.  We are still collecting money all next week so that hopefully we can reach our goal of $500.00 from Fairview (approximately a twonnie per student).

Planners just arrived so we will start using them Monday.

We have finished our All About Me and are starting our Canada unit next week.  Students will soon be bringing home information about being our #1 Canadian!

Ask your child about Reader's Workshop and Explorations, we have these activities regularly but the stations change every week or two.

Just a reminder that if you have not sent in your child's inside shoes, please do so as soon as possible.  With the wetter weather plus even the dew their shoes are getting very wet and dirty and we'd like to avoid bringing that into the classroom.

Family Reading has been going very well the last few weeks. Thanks so much to everyone who has been able to join us.  The students love it when you can make it.

Important reminder that next week with Thanksgiving coming up we are wanting to help out the Friends in Need Food Bank.  Please send non-perishable food items in any day Monday- Friday.  Thanks for your support!

This is Slowy our class turtle as you can see some students have build him a special home!!

September 22/15

Attention all parents - please check the school district portal and go to the form section as we have many forms posted there that need to be filled out.  For example - our Terry Fox Run is next Wed. Sept. 30 and you must have completed the walking form for your child to participate.   We also need parent volunteers to walk/run with our class, please let me know if you are available.  Thanks.  Also on Wednesday it is Picture Day in the am but then the run in afternoon please ensure that your child has appropriate clothing and running shoes for the run (rain or shine!) Please also be sure to send a water bottle.

Thanks to everyone that has already sent in the $15.00 to cover the cost of planners and memory books.  Unfortunately there was an error in the planners we received so we had to re-order and the new ones won't be in for a few weeks but they are on their way.  As soon as they come in we will be using them daily for home reading and communication.  Thanks for your patience with this.

Family Reading will be starting this Friday morning at 8:30 - 8:45.  Last year we were very fortunate that so many parents could attend, I am really hoping that parents are available to come out this year.

Just a reminder we do have a nut allergy in our class so do not send any food that contains nuts.
Also I did put out the sign up for snacks for our celebrations so if you haven't had a chance to sign up please just drop by the class to sign up for one of the holidays.  Thanks in advance for contributing.

Welcome to our class blog!

You will find hopefully everything that is happening and going to happen in Div. 7 here. Monthly newsletters and calendars will be posted as well as weekly updates. Student photos will be posted and they will have input as to what is included and shared on this blog. Hope you enjoy and check it regularly!
