Happy Halloween!

It's has been a busy, crazy week in Div. 7 with Halloween Math, Reader's Workshop and Explorations!  Some of the highlights were our Multiplication Monsters, a smartie graph, surveying and graphing Fairview's Halloween treats  (chocolate bars were the most popular choice).  These graphs will be displayed by the library.  Hopefully all the ghosts arrived home safely - thanks again to Quinn and Mason"s moms for helping.
This week not only do the students have some Halloween poems but also addition and subtraction games for you to play at home!
Thanks to Mallary, Marco, Mason, Gianna and Kate for all the yummy food and treats today for our celebration.  All the students looked great in their costumes and I hope everyone has a fun, safe Halloweeen!

for providing all the yummy food for our celebration.

Thanks to Heather for organizing my birthday surprise - very appreciated!!

We have a field trip booked for Friday, November 20.  You should be receiving a portal notification soon.  We do need parent drivers and volunteers.  Thanks in advance!

Oct. 22/15

Just a reminder that tomorrow Friday, Oct. 23rd is a pro d day so there is no school for students.

Eli, Eva and Charlotte were our great Canadians this week, they all had good presentations!  Thanks for sharing!

Div. 6 & 7 assembly line of ghosts!!   A huge thank you to Quinn, Mason and Vincent's (from Ms Roberts class) moms for helping making these and to Eli's mom for getting the rags ready for production and to Mason's mom for buying the all the rags :)

Your child will be bringing home a book bag with a Halloween story (some have already). Please practice these as your child will be part of a group to present these next week.  I will be sending more books the first week of November!

Pajama day was a big success!  We even painted in our pjs with our big buddies!

Next Friday is our Halloween celebration, all students are welcome to dress up for Halloween and wear their costumes to school in the morning.  We will be having a costume parade in the gym at 8:50 right after family reading.  Thanks in advance to the following students who are bringing the food for our celebration.   Fruit plate -   Gianna       Veggie plate - Marco
Cheese/Crackers or small sandwiches - Kate       Other - Mallary
Pretzels, popcorn or chips - Mason.      Sweet Treats -    Zander

October 16/15

We now have beautiful fall leaves hanging from the ceiling, the students used their pastels to colour and smudge to create these realistic colourful leaves.

Thanks to everyone for sending in paper towel rolls but please keep sending them in as we still need 10 more.

If you know your child is going to be absent please contact the office as with our new computer system it can only be imputed by Mrs. Corcoran.

During buddies we played Capture the Flag, it was Div. 1 against Div. 6 & 7.  It was lots of fun.

The students have started their Christmas cards this week which they will finish up next week so they can be submitted and published for possible purchase.

I have added our Celebration Snack list as an additional page on this blog but before each celebration I will also post a reminder for everyone.

Thanks to all families who have worked to find further words in their child's names.  Obviously some names have many more possibilities but the goal is just to find as many words in each name and help strengthen literacy skills (specifically reading and spelling).

Great Canadians start next week.  If you have any questions about this please just ask.

Oct. 9

If anyone has paper towel rolls please send in ASAP.  Thanks. We are making rain sticks and yes we  need some parent helpers :)

Please return student verification forms as soon as possible.  Thanks

There is just a few of you that have not signed upto bring something for one of our class celebrations please see or email me next week as I will be finalizing and posting it next Friday.  Please don't worry as I will always put up a reminder on the blog before the celebration.

Scholastic order has been placed thanks to Miranda (Mason's mom). Please do not send cash instead please pay by cheque made out to Scholastic.  Next order that we send out will have a letter with information about paying by visa so that you can pay them directly.   Also if you are purchasing gifts please just indicate on your order form and I will be sure to not give them to your child but instead just hold them and give them to you in person.

I hope you all like the turkey and the pumpkin that your child made for your dinner tables, they were very excited to bring them home!  Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend.

Oct. 2

Fairview had a successful Terry Fox Run, thanks to all the parents who helped out on the course, cutting oranges and walking/running the route with the students.  We are still collecting money all next week so that hopefully we can reach our goal of $500.00 from Fairview (approximately a twonnie per student).

Planners just arrived so we will start using them Monday.

We have finished our All About Me and are starting our Canada unit next week.  Students will soon be bringing home information about being our #1 Canadian!

Ask your child about Reader's Workshop and Explorations, we have these activities regularly but the stations change every week or two.

Just a reminder that if you have not sent in your child's inside shoes, please do so as soon as possible.  With the wetter weather plus even the dew their shoes are getting very wet and dirty and we'd like to avoid bringing that into the classroom.

Family Reading has been going very well the last few weeks. Thanks so much to everyone who has been able to join us.  The students love it when you can make it.

Important reminder that next week with Thanksgiving coming up we are wanting to help out the Friends in Need Food Bank.  Please send non-perishable food items in any day Monday- Friday.  Thanks for your support!

This is Slowy our class turtle as you can see some students have build him a special home!!
